Welcome to my portfolio. My name is Arturo J. Hernandez. I am proud of the educational accomplishments and experience I attained growing up along the U.S./Mexico border in Southern California. It took one teacher who believed in me, and it changed my life. One of my aspirations is to teach English with excellence so I can do the same for others, to change lives. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve had the opportunity to explore and experience first-hand the meaning of cultural diversity. Living near Mexico, I have been fortunate to experience many levels of connectedness that exist between the two border cultures. Obtaining my TESOL certificate at UCLA-Extension will allow me to teach individuals who want to become competent in the English language. My educational journey has transformed me into a compassionate and caring teacher who embraces teaching strategies to increase self-empowerment and encourage mindfulness while simultaneously learning English. My goal is to be a cultural ambassador to enhance student’s success and facilitate the realization of the dreams and aspirations of English learners.
